Ground Base Options
Sleeved bases are a simple, quick and effective solution for installing smaller flagpoles, from 6m to 7.5m heights. They make it quick and easy to lower flagpoles for maintenance or relocate flagpoles, with no cranes or heavy machinery needed.
Hinged bases and flange bases are a safe, WHS compliant option for our larger flagpoles, from 8.5m to 12m heights. The hinge or flange plate positions the J-bolts, allowing poles to be manually raised and lowered safely, with no cranes or heavy machinery needed.
Can I self-install flagpoles?
YES! Our products are designed to be self-installed and assembled, so you can save time and money by self-installing your new flagpoles. Our technical team are available to provide more information and advice.
If you'd prefer to outsource this job, our sub-contractors are available to assist with your project in many locations around Australia. And in locations that we don’t service, we can recommend local contractors for you to engage directly.
How do I install sleeved flagpoles?
PILA’s sleeved flagpoles can be lowered or removed from their base at any time. Ground sleeves are permanently set in concrete beneath the surface of the ground with the flagpole spigot slotting into the sleeve and locking securely in place. When removed, the pole is lifted out and a top cap is fitted.
How do I install hinged or flange flagpoles?
PILA’s hinged and flange flagpoles can be lowered or removed from their base at any time. The ground bolts stay permanently embedded in concrete below the surface of the ground, and when the flagpole is removed, the bolts can be safely covered with sand, soil, or a cover plate - keeping the surface safe.

PILA offers 3 standard base styles for flagpoles including anti-suction ground sleeves, bolt-down flange bases, and bolt-down hinge bases.
Our flagpoles are designed for self-installation by your tradesperson, with technical support available from our team.

Can I use existing footings?
Yes, sometimes you can! If you want to fit new PILA flagpoles to existing footings, contact our technical team for further advice.
Do I need to maintain my PILA product?
For flagpoles, we recommend routinely checking:
- Lubricate the door lock.
- Check for wear points along the rope.
- Rope is running freely and is not knotted inside the pole.
- Keep the spare key labeled and safely stored.
- Use the correct size flag and do not use oversized flags.
Do I measure circumference or diameter?
We get asked this question almost daily! If you're trying to work out what size flagpoles you need, particuarly if you're replacing existing products, we often require the diameter of what you have on your field. Diameter is the distance across a circle, straight through the centre, and circumference is the distance around the outside of the circle (like the edge or the rim).
I need repairs or spare parts
Our products are designed to be self-maintained and we offer a full range of spare parts for purchase. Parts can be fitted by yourself or a licenced tradesperson, and our team are available to provide technical support over the phone.
