What are Standards?
Standards are intended to provide users with a common basis for evaluating the safety, durability and structural adequacy of products. They are developed in a consensus-based process organised by a recognised standards body. In Australia this is Standards Australia (AS/NZS). In summary, standards:
- Describe the means of evaluating products
- Define the specific tests
- Define the test equipment that may be used
- Define the minimum acceptable levels
- Define how products should be tested
What are Tests?
- Endurance / Durability
- Fatigue / Deficiencies
- Strength / Impact / Load
- Stability / Tipping / Overturn
- Dimensions / Specifications
What are Benefits?
Product certification confirms that a product meets the necessary local, national or international quality standards relevant to a particular market or product set. It demonstrates to current and prospective customers that the product has undergone a rigorous audit and testing process.
- Assures the product meets a high standard of safety.
- Provides insight into a product’s structural adequacy, strength & durability.
- Identifies any issues prior to the product being released for sale.
- Reduces risk relating to workplace injuries or accidents.
- Assures purchasing decisions are based on documented evidence.
This can only be achieved through certification.
